Colossus of Rhodes

The year 275 B.C. saw the completion of one of the most astonishing of the Seven Wonders of the World. The great bronze statue depicting either Helios or Apollo stood over 100' in height and graced the entrance to the harbor of Rhodes. To enter the harbor ships would sail between the legs of the Colossus. The statue stood until it was destroyed by an earthquake in 224 B.C.
